Anxiety, perfectionism
and trusting yourself.
You might spend hours turning a decision over, replay a conversation, or feel responsible for anticipating every possible problem. Therapy offers a place to look closely at what you’re carrying.
When perfectionism becomes exhausting
You may find yourself checking a decision long after you’ve made it, looking for reassurance, or treating a small mistake as evidence that you’ve let someone down. It can be difficult to tell when a situation needs more attention and when you’ve reached the limits of what you can know.
What we can explore together
We can look at the situations that bring up worry, the expectations you hold yourself to, and what it feels like to disappoint someone or get something wrong. I’m interested in how these patterns developed and how they affect your life now.
Making room for your own judgment
Our work may include thinking through a current decision, noticing self-critical reactions, or finding words for a need you’ve been dismissing. We’ll pay attention to both your immediate concerns and the patterns that keep returning.
What you might call self-sabotage
You may put off something that matters, keep revising until you miss the chance to share it, or pull back just as a next step becomes possible. It can feel as though you’re getting in your own way, even when you want things to change.
We can look closely at a recent example without assuming we already know why it happened. What felt difficult? What were you hoping for, or worried about? I offer feedback and help you consider another perspective or a small step to try. We’ll return to what was useful and what wasn’t.
A few questions.
Do I need an anxiety diagnosis to begin?
No. You can contact me because worry, overthinking, or self-doubt is making life difficult, whether or not you have a diagnosis.
Can we discuss anxiety about my job?
Yes. Responsibility, uncertainty, and fear of making mistakes at work can be part of our conversations.
Can we work on perfectionism and self-sabotage?
Yes. We can explore the standards you hold yourself to, the moments when you get stuck, and what makes a different response difficult. Our work can include understanding the pattern, trying another perspective, and choosing something manageable to do differently.
